http://www.magtech.com.br/history/texto.htmCBC - Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos was founded in 1926 by the Matarazzo family. It began its activities by making shotgun cartridges. At that time, it had the name of FมBRICA NACIONAL DE CARTUCHOS E MUNIวีES.
From 1936 to 1979, Remington Arms Co. (of the USA) and Imperial Chemical Industries (of the U.K.) controlled the Company. During that period the Company made an important technological leap forward. Its name was changed to COMPANHIA BRASILEIRA DE CARTUCHOS and its trade mark CBC, became known in the world over.
In 1979 CBC became an entirely Brazilian owned company. At present time, the Arbi Group owns 70% of its voting shares, and 30% by IMBEL - Industria de Material B้lico do Brasil. In 1990 the new MAGTECH brand name was created for the products used in the civil market abroad.
CBC's main industrial complex is located in the municipality of Ribeirใo Pires (state of Sใo Paulo), Brazil, in a vast green area of about 1,800,000 square meters, which contains its ammunition, propellant powder, primer composition, as well as its central offices. A second industrial complex located in the south of country is devoted to the production of firearms and shotshells.
Today, CBC offers a wide range of products for public and military use, which include centerfire and rimfire ammunition of small and medium calibers, industrial cartridges, ammunition components, propellant powder, shotguns and rifles.
Products meet international regulations, and are homologated by the Brazilian Armed Forces and the main proof houses in Europe.
The high quality of its products, recognized internationally, and the fact that it is currently exporting to over 65 countries, assures to CBC a prominent position amongst the foremost manufacturers of ammunition and firearms in the world.
Modern and efficient production methods
Our basic motto is: "Highest possible quality at a competitive price". But what seems to be a short slogan is a lot more than that. It demands very high efforts in every single step of the production, be it research and development, production, engineering or quality control.
Cost-intensive processes, which do not influence quality in a positive way, have to be reduced; this is the philosophy wherever you look in the firm.
Due to the worldwide surplus of ammunition production capacities a competitive price also plays an important role, as some 70 percent of the MAGTECH production are for export. A permanent check for the opportunity of cost reductions is part of CBC's production.
Wherever you look in the industrial complex you see modern, state of the art automatic and fully computerized machines, thus requiring few operators. In the powder plant, each individual building is dedicated to one step, all rooms and concrete walls or ceilings separate machines, this being a safety precaution. The very few persons working here usually wear white coats and work in chemical and testing laboratories. Here, with the aid of ultra-modern instruments and technology, raw material for the powder production as well as the finished products are permanently being analyzed and monitored. The chemical and physical tests data of all powders produced in the factory are stored in computers and are always available when required.
CBC's position in the market
CBC produces cartridges for both the civilian and the military market with calibers ranging from .22 LR to 30 mm. The firm's traditional specialty is the manufacture of handgun ammunition. The most important cartridges produced are calibers .380AUTO, 40 S&W, 9mm, 357MAG, 45AUTO, 44MAGNUM. In the meantime, however, a wide range of rifle cartridges has been added to this. Also shotshells, mainly for the domestic market and South America, are being produced. All cartridges made by CBC are being sold worldwide under the tradename "Magtech".
Some 80% of the firearms made are being exported, the export rate of the ammunition amounts to 70 percent.
Production of single-base powders
CBC operates a very modern state-of-the-art, hi-tech, single base propellant manufacturing plant.
The process configuration with computer controlled operations and on line quality control secures the highest degree of consistently reproducible product quality and very uniform ballistic performance of all the propellants produced.
The production capabilities extend from the smallest flakes for boosters through shotshells, industrial cartridges, pistol and revolver powders to all commercial and military rifles and heavy artillery ammunition propellants.
The plant not only supplies CBC's ammunition production with the required wide range of powder types, it also welcomes inquiries for export orders.
It should be noted that also non-standard propellants, for special applications can be manufactured within the range of single base formulations.
